ASHLEY Hutchings, the grandfather of British folk rock, is heading back to the Island with his latest group, the Rainbow Chasers, to headline at Quay Arts, Newport, next Saturday, May 24.
Hutchings, an original member of legendary bands Fairport Convention, Steel-eye Span and the Albion Band, is back by popular demand
For Hutchings it’s always a special treat to play the Island. He was in Fairport Convention when they played the first IW Pop Festival, at Godshill, in 1968.
“I love coming back to the Island. It holds so many happy memories, particularly that Godshill gig which pioneered the two major festivals that followed,” he said. “I also have two long-term IW friends, my biographer Dr Brian Hinton and journalist and broadcaster John Hannam.”
Hutchings will remain on the Island to present Ashley Hutchings and Friends at the Farringford Hotel, Fresh-water, on Sunday, May 25, at 6pm. This will be a night of conversation, songs, poetry and music and will also feature Dr Hinton. Tickets available from the venue.
