THE NINTH annual Lambretta Day on Sunday promises to be a bustling one, with hundreds of scooterists from around the country due to descend on the Island.
This year, Lambretta Day has reverted back to a one-day event with scooter enthusiasts meeting up as usual for the Island country ride. Riders will meet at Generation clothing store, Newport, at noon, with the Island-based Heart & Soul Scooter Club leading the scooter rally at 1pm.
When the rally arrives at its usual mystery destination, scooterists will be welcomed by a barbecue, DJ music and scooter club competitions.
As part of the day, highly regarded Southampton band the Hi-Watts will be performing at the Liquid Lounge in Union Street, Ryde. There will also be plenty of mod music spun by DJ Ricky Tick.
Lambretta Day organiser and Lambretta enthusiast Steve Robson, of Visual Impact, said: “The Hi-Watts is a great band, playing mostly Who, Jam and Undertones covers, but really put their own spin on each song. They are real showmen and create a great atmosphere.
“Everyone is really looking forward to this year’s event. We cut it to a one-day event, as we originally intended it to be, to focus more attention on the events going on. It should be a really good day.”
Mr Robson said he is planning a huge Lambretta Day for next year to celebrate the event’s tenth anniversary.
