ISLANDERS REUNITED
From Anne Oliver, Burnroy House, Archiestown, Aberlour, Banff AB387QZ:
An intriguing connection: I’M researching the Grant family and have a wealth of letters and papers at my disposal (I collated the archive for Elgin Museum).
Charles Grant, second laird, founded the village of Aberlour on Speyside (home of Walker’s shortbread and until recently prep school for Gordonstoun.)
He lived mainly on the IW and died in 1828 at 42, unmarried, or so I believed until I recently came across a death notice for Sarah, a relative of Charles Grant, of Wester Elchies, died 1862 at The Lodge, Bembridge.
The estate was inherited by James William Grant, who lived in India and I’ve never heard a mention of Sarah, although there are other connections with the wider family to this address.
I’m intrigued and wonder if your readers have any knowledge of this lady.
