HISTORY IN THE GARDEN
Friday, May 16, 2008
Was this originally a ticket office?
ISLANDERS REUNITED
From Phoenix Rhiannon, Hideaway Cottage, Appley Farm, Marlborough Road, Ryde:
WHEN my father moved into his bungalow in Shanklin in 1996, he was told by the previous owner the old shed in the garden had a bit of history.
She said it was the original ticket office for admission to the cliff lift in Shanklin.
Dad, finding the shed’s history interesting, kept it. As you can see today, it is in quite a sorry state as age has got the better of it and he dare not open the door anymore for fear of collapse.
I just wondered if anyone could verify its history?
I cannot find any photographic confirmation but it certainly is intriguing.
In the Sixties and Seven-ties, when I was very young, my family bought tickets for the cliff lift and so how strange would it be that very ticket office would become my dad’s shed today?
