RETREAT INTO YOUR OWN HAPPY HAVEN

PROPERTY OF THE WEEK
FAMILIES and flexible living fit perfectly together and adaptable space is exactly what is on offer if you make Retreat your own private haven.
Positioned at the end of a private driveway off Lush-ington Hill, Wootton, the substantial characterful house can be arranged with up to six bedrooms.
If more reception space or play areas are required, however, the two downstairs bedrooms are ideal for this purpose.
Another possibility is turning this northern part of the detached home over to an elderly relative or maybe an older child, giving them a degree of independence, while living alongside the rest of the family.
Already in place here is a shower room next to one of the bedrooms and the other could serve as a lounge.
In fact, the extensive accommodation offers a variety of configurations to suit its occupants, with a breakfast room, kitchen, utility room, lounge/diner and conservatory in the southern part, on the ground floor.
Upstairs is a bathroom and four double bedrooms — one of them well blessed with en-suite facilities.
Character features creating an olde worlde ambiance to much of the ground floor include ceiling and wall beams, exposed wooden flooring and an attractive stone fireplace surround.
Retreat certainly lives up to its name. Although it is conveniently close to cross Solent ferry links and to the amenities of both Wootton and Newport, it seems as if it is in a little world of its own. Double wooden gates open to mature gardens of around an acre, dotted with many mature trees and shrubs.
Attracting a variety of birds, they extend mostly to the south of the white colourwashed and timbered property.
Keen gardeners will delight in the three greenhouses and scope to carry out additional planting, while those who prefer DIY can indulge their hobby in a good-sized workshop.
A long driveway leads past the front of the house, to an open-fronted garage with attached workshop and there is parking space for several cars.
Step inside Retreat and its character is instantly evident.
An entrance lobby has a storage cupboard, plus wall and floor beams and wooden flooring which continues on through a walkway into the centrally positioned reception hall.
This charming area is squarish in shape, with an attractive central mahogany staircase rising to the first floor and a rear window looking onto the lawned back garden.
Through a planked latched door from the entrance lobby is the front-facing breakfast room, another space with beams and wooden flooring, evoking the feel of days gone by.
An archway links the breakfast room to the kitchen, which also has a front window and is fitted with a range of white wooden base and wall units. Marble worktops, tiled flooring and space for a cooker and appliances can also be found in this room.
Next door, in the utility room, is a front window space and plumbing for a washing machine and a door to a separate WC.
Exuding charm reminiscent of Tudor times, is the 23ft by 12ft lounge/diner accessed from the breakfast room and with a beamed ceiling and walls plus a fine decorative stone surround to an open fireplace.
This room has rear countryside glimpses and double glazed patio doors to a conservatory.
With PVCu double-glazed windows to the side and rear the conservatory is a comfortable spot to sit and look out over the wooded gardens and watch visiting birds.
A door opens from here to a concreted area, with steps down to the garden.
Accessed from the central reception hall is a shower room with a vanity sink with cupboards beneath, an enclosed shower cubicle and WC.
This part of the house also includes two bedrooms/ reception rooms, one of them front-facing and the other with rear countryside glimpses.
The upstairs landing is a spacious U-shaped area, with rear views to countryside and room for a desk or computer workstation.
Bedroom one is a bright and spacious room, with a side outlook to the garden and a rear window.
It has an en-suite bathroom with a white suite, plus access to a shower room.
Also on this floor is a bathroom and three more double bedrooms, two of them with built-in wardrobes.
At the southern side of the house is a sun terrace, with steps down to the garden, an extensive lawned area en-hanced by a bright mimosa, fruit trees mature trees and shrubs and continuing on to the rear of the house.
Along with three greenhouses, there is also a shed.
