BEST KEPT VILLAGE AWARDS
By Clare Wall -
Tuesday, April 1, 2008
VILLAGES are being invited to take part in the 40th annual IW Best Kept Village Awards.
The aim of the awards, which are sponsored by several companies and organisations, including the WI, the Campaign to Protect Rural England and the County Press, is to encourage villages to improve their appearance and tidiness, especially litter reduction, to the benefit of the whole community. There are five main awards this year, for the best kept village, best extra large village, best large village, best medium village and best small village. There is also the Merlin Trophy for conservation.
The first and second rounds of judging take place in May, with the final round taking place in June.
The winners will be announced at a ceremony in September.
