BEACON STATUS FOR LEARN DIRECT
Friday, May 2, 2008
THE quality and breadth of education at the IW College COOLspot learn direct centres have been recognised in a top national award.
The Association of Colleges (AoC) bestowed Beacon status on the COOLspot (Centres of Open and On-line Learning) centres, recognising them as the best in Britain.
The award is granted to the one college which demonstrates the most innovative provision of learning facilities within learndirect centres.
“COOLspot are honoured to have won a prestigious national beacon award, it is a testament to the team who provide an excellent level of support for each learner and are dedicated to learner success,” said Fidelma Wash-ington, acting director of workforce skills and offender learning at the college.
COOLspot, which has a centre in Camp Hill prison, celebrated in style with an awards ceremony held at the college, packed with entertainment including performances from performing art students and the screening of COOLspot DVD created by a college media student and music supplied by Platform One.
Alan Titchmarsh, high sheriff, attended along with other dignitaries including Malcolm Ming, south east regional director for University for Industry (UFI), who presented a cheque for £5,000 to Fidelma Washington and Sarah Snowdon, learning centre manager, which will be used to further develop the COOLspot provision.
