THE conversion of the old chapel at Great East Standen Manor has been an inspired labour of love for Ronald Scotchbrook.
Working closely with his builder, Peter Davis, many of the original features were saved and re-used to create an ideal quiet holiday cottage in beautiful surroundings, on the outskirts of Newport.
The conversion earned the pair highly commended certificates in the Country Land and Business Association (CLA) rural buildings award scheme.
“They have produced a wonderful result enabling an under-used building to be enjoyed by visitors to the Island as holiday accommodation,” said James Attrill, chairman of the CLA on the Island.
“The careful saving and re-use of many of the original features, combined with the clever use of wood, has produced a cosy and comfortable atmosphere.
“The large windows allow light to flood in and to top the whole building off with a thatched roof makes it an ideal holiday cottage.”
