FLYING HIGH WITH BEST OF BRITISH
Geoff Underwood, managing director of Inflight Peripherals, was delighted with the Queen’s Award.
AN Island company has been given royal approval by winning one of the country’s most prestigious awards for business-related achievement — the Queen’s Award.
Newport company Inflight Peripherals was an international trade award winner this year after more than quadrupling its overseas revenue in three years and selling more than 90 per cent of its production overseas.
The company, which started in 1997 and is based in Manners View, specialises in the design, development and manufacture of electronic equipment for inflight entertainment systems, mainly for commercial passenger aircraft.
An awards spokesman said: “This outstanding performance has been achieved by providing innovative, well-engineered solutions to meet aircraft builders’ and airline requirements quickly, and with a high level of quality control.
“While most sales are to the USA, new markets such as China and India are emerging and the company is targeting the business aviation market in both Europe and North America.”
The award winners were announced in the Queen’s birthday, April 21.
Prime Minister Gordon Brown said: “Queen’s Award-winning companies are standard bearers for the very best of British business.
“These firms embody the spirit of enterprise and innovation that is so vital to the future of Britain’s economy. Whether large or small, every one of this year’s winning organisations has achieved outstanding success in its field.”
Managing director Geoff Underwood said: “We’re delighted. Hopefully this will be good for us in terms of our overseas client base. This is recognition of our product, the quality we put into it and the hard work of everybody who works here.”
