Isle of Wight: News and video screens in Cowes
County Press goes live in Cowes
By Lorraine Parker -
Wednesday, July 30, 2008
TWELVE high-definition screens displaying scrolling news and video footage of local events have just been installed in Cowes.
The iZone network, which is the first of its kind in the UK, has just been launched by Island publishers The Knowledge Zone (TKZ).
From Saturday, Cowes Week revellers will be able to catch all the action from each day’s sailing on the screens, as well as information about sailing conditions, weather, advertising and news headlines from the County Press and TKZ’s Cowes Online website.
One screen is outside the town’s marina, while others are dotted around the town’s most popular pubs.
Best known for its Cowes Port Handbook and Cowes Online, TKZ has also combined its skills and knowledge of video production and sailing to deliver weekly programmes to Cowes TV.
In the future it plans to deliver live footage from the water to the shoreside audience. It is also hoped to operate more screens throughout the Island and mainland and develop a mobile network to provide real-time race updates, live video and infromation to mobile devices.
Steve Sleight, managing director of TKZ, said: “The introduction of the iZone is the next logical step for The Knowledge Zone in significantly expanding the reach and distribution of our sailing and boating content to a much broader and more engaged traget audience."
