Isle of Wight: Wroxall Primary pupils clear litter
Pupils clear litter near school
By Lori Little -
Wednesday, August 13, 2008
LITTER was cleared by eco-friendly pupils of Wroxall Primary School pupils.
Teachers and IW Council community support officers Harry Dea and Linda Shorter helped the Year 4 children clear the area around their school.
Linda said: “The pupils worked really hard to clear away the play area at the back of the school. They collected a lot of rubbish and I think they also enjoyed getting out and making a difference to the community.”
Headteacher Sue Skyrme added: “Our children get very cross when they cannot use their playground due to rubbish and broken bottles, so this was their chance to fight back and do something positive. I am very proud of their community spirit and their efforts, which I hope will be appreciated and supported.”
Cllr Diana Tuson, IW Council Cabinet members for safer communities, said: “Hopefully the positive example of the primary school children may rub off on the people who drop the litter in the first place.”
