FESTIVAL POLICING DEAL REACHED

By Ross Findon - Friday, March 28, 2008
ISLE of Wight Festival bosses have reached an agreement with police over the event.
A licensing hearing on Wednesday had to be adjourned until April 23 as the two parties failed to agree the level and cost of policing for the 2008 festival.

A police spokesman said they would not comment on the cost agreed by the parties. Last year the figure was £120,000, while before this agreement the 2008 figure was between £250,000 and £300,000.
“It was never our intention to prevent the festival going ahead in 2008, but our priority remains that it must be a safe event,” said the spokesman.
“Following negotiations with the organisers we are now satisfied arrangements for policing the festival meet our requirements.”
The IW Council will still consider the application on April 23.
