A RYDE teenager whose daring baton-twirling routine captured the imagination of judges has been selected to represent England at the world championships.
Medina High School pupil Kimberley Jones, 15, will be hoping to repeat her winning performance, which includes tricky moves to Charlotte Church’s version of Papa Can You Hear Me?, when she competes for the junior freestyle world title in Ireland this August.
Kimberley of Park Road, Ryde, who was chosen at a recent British Baton Twirlers Sports Association selection event in Sheffield, will also compete at the world championships as a member of the national junior squad.
Grandmother and director of Simply Wight Baton Twirlers, Sheila Holme, said: “Kimberley’s won a lot of competitions since she started baton twirling at the age of three but this is her biggest achievement to date.”
