SOMETHINGREEN, a company formed by young people to encourage others to recycle something old, was the big winner at the Young Enterprise Innovation Awards 2008.
The winning company, made up of female students from Ryde School, also scooped awards for best business plan, best report and best product during the ceremony at Cowes Yacht Haven on Wednesday night.
Somethingreen will now go forward to represent the Island in the Hampshire and IW finals to be held in Winchester later this month.
Best stand was awarded to Fuerza, a company formed by students from Ryde High School to develop and market a board game, Mystery Isle, based on the historical features of the Island.
Sam Bartlett, from Ryde High School, was named Young Achiever of the Year for successfully completing a year’s trading with Impressive Empresa, after other founder members dropped out.
The company aimed to advertise local businesses, either through leaflets and posters or through other means, such as key fobs.
Best presentation went to Island Hosts, a company set up by students at the IW College, to provide an events’ hosting service.
