Isle of Wight: Brambles holiday centre plan

Holiday centre plans thrown out

By Martin Neville - Tuesday, July 22, 2008
A PACKED public gallery cheered loudly as planners rejected a scheme to significantly expand a Freshwater holiday centre yesterday (Tuesday).
The original plans for Brambles, in Monks Lane, generated more than 500 letters of objection.
Following a minor amendment, the plans were recommended by officers for conditional permission, but planning committee members threw them out, saying the scale and density was inappropriate in a holiday location and a rural area.
The plans involved demolishing the centre’s old swimming pool, bar and entertainment building and replacing them with four separate blocks, including 29 units of holiday accommodation, including a swimming pool and sauna.
A major objection was that amenity space would be insufficient.
