ISLANDERS have until the end of Friday to enter the Bestival Island Band and DJ Competition if they want to take part in this year‘s event.
The annual talent search led to a record deal for Bastila, who won the competition in 2006, and winning acts this year will again be chosen to perform main stage and dance tent slots.
Bestival curator Rob Da Bank will choose a shortlist of his ten favourite bands and six favourite DJs ahead of a live final in June.
In a new twist, shortlisted acts will appear on the County Press website from next week (Friday 23), giving readers a unique chance to whittle down the shortlist to five bands and three DJs to appear in the Ryde Theatre final on June 18.
A panel of judges will then select the winning band and DJ to appear at this year’s Bestival.
Bands should submit one track as an mp3, while DJs need to send a weblink to their best 20-minute mix, both via the Bestival website
www.bestival.co.uk
.
The eventual winners will join a line-up featuring Amy Winehouse, DJ Yoda, Underworld and The Human League.
The quality of entries at last year’s event prompted Rob to state: “The Island is head and shoulders above the rest of the UK for new music.”
