KATE HAS WRITE STUFF FOR CHARITY CHALLENGE

By County Press Reporter - Tuesday, April 22, 2008
COUNTY Press features writer Kate Young is to undertake a unique writing challenge in aid of Newport's Earl Mountbatten Hospice.
Kate, 33, hopes the Trans-Siberian Writing Challenge this autumn will raise £10,000 for the hospice and increase awareness of this worthwhile Island charity.
She has challenged herself to write at least 100 A5 pages while on an 18-day trip from Beijing through China, Mongolia, Siberia and Russia, finishing in Moscow.
Kate, a former Cowes High School pupil, hopes as many people as possible will sponsor her to complete this challenge, which will involve writing between five and six pages a day.
She said: “Going on the Trans-Siberian railway is something I have always wanted to do and I have spent the past year saving up, so I can pay for the whole cost of the trip myself.
“I felt a bit guilty about taking such a long holiday, so I decided to do something meaningful during the trip.
“I have done several similar writing challenges to raise money for charities in the past, so I simply decided to do another and to turn my pen to raising money for the hospice this time.”
As well as writing the equivalent of a small book on the trip, Kate has started a blog to help people keep track of her progress.

Kate can be sponsored online via the secure site www.justgiving.com/transsibwriter or send cheques, made payable to the Earl Mountbatten Hospice, to Trans-Siberian Writing Challenge, Fundraising Team, Earl Mountbatten Hospice, Halberry Lane, Newport, PO30 2ER.
