RETIRED music teacher Jean Elizabeth Rashley died at Southampton General Hospital last Friday, aged 75.
Born at her grandparents’ farm in Niton on January 25, 1933, she was the only child of Charles and Win Rashley. Her father was a builder and funeral director in the village.

ROLAND ‘Roly’ Henry Ringer, one of the best-known Island cricketers of his generation, has died, aged 67.
A founder member of Arreton Cricket Club 40 years ago, Mr Ringer was skipper and chairman of the club for many years and a leading run scorer.

ROY Reginald Raymond Reid, an altar server, chorister, bell ringer and fund-raiser at St Mary’s RC Church, Ryde, has died, aged 80.
Mr Reid was born in Portsmouth on July 15, 1927, and, apart from a brief wartime evacuation to Guildford, he remained there until his retirement.

A FORMER police inspector, who returned to the Island 18 months ago and gave talks about his life and work, has died, aged 94.
The youngest of five brothers, Denis Padwick was born on January 7, 1914, in Romsey, Hampshire.

TREVOR Morgan Wray, a respected Island teacher and sportsman, has died, aged 56.
Mr Wray, of Upper Lane, Brighstone, was born on September 13, 1951, into the Island family that ran Wray’s Bakery.

FATHER Richard Davey, the former parish priest of St Wilfrid’s, Ventnor, has died, aged 71.
Born in Gosport, on October 6, 1936, Fr Davey was ordained in 1966 after attending a seminary in Lisbon, Portugal.

STEPHEN Dennis Hayles, an Island man with a passion for the countryside and agriculture, has died, aged 53.
Mr Hayles, known as Steve or Rigger, was born in Calbourne on March 15, 1955, to the late Bill Morrell and Freda McHugh, nee Hayles.
