By County Press Reporter - Friday, May 2, 2008
TREVOR Morgan Wray, a respected Island teacher and sportsman, has died, aged 56.
Mr Wray, of Upper Lane, Brighstone, was born on September 13, 1951, into the Island family that ran Wray’s Bakery.

He was educated at Ryde School and King Alfred’s College, Winchester, where he studied PE.
It was at college that Mr Wray met his wife, Trish, whom he married at Long Itchington, Warwickshire, in 1972.
The couple returned to the Island the following year, when Mr Wray began working as a PE teacher at Sandown High School.
He quickly developed a reputation as an excellent teacher at Sandown, a school he loved dearly, and he was made head of PE in 1988.
An outstanding tennis and rugby player, Mr Wray joined The Hurricanes rugby club as a fly-half in 1974 and continued to play successfully for many years. He was also a member of Osborne Golf Club and a keen tennis player.
As a figurehead in Island sporting circles, Mr Wray was instrumental in key areas of sport development, even after his retirement in 2000.
He was heavily involved in the IW Sports Federation, the IW Schools’ Football Association and the IW Schools’ Athletics Association.
Mr Wray’s hobbies included DIY and he enjoyed spending time with his wife and family.
Mr Wray leaves his wife, Trish, his children, Morgan and Katie, and five grandchildren, plus his mother, Joy, and his brother, Simon.
Last Saturday, a minute’s silence was held for Mr Wray at The Hurricanes’ match.
A service celebrating his life will be held at the Minster Church of Sts Thomas, Newport, at 3pm on Thursday.
