Isle of Wight: Red Jet ferry prices

Price hike for some hi-speed trips

By Martin Neville - Thursday, July 24, 2008
SOME standard Red Jet Hi-Speed fares will rise by 50p per leg from tomorrow (Friday), in response to the high price of fuel.
However, the cost of off-peak fares, evening returns and family tickets will remain the same and the company said there were no plans to apply a fuel surcharge to the vehicle ferry service.
“We have endeavoured to shelter customers for as long as possible from the continued impact of record high oil prices but unfortunately, despite reducing costs where possible, we now have little option but to increase some fares,” said Tom Docherty, Red Funnel managing director.
“We hope customers will understand this decision has not been taken lightly.”
On Monday, Hovertravel followed Wightlink with a fuel surcharge, adding 30p per single crossing, with a smaller increase for season tickets. Wightlink was the first to introduce a surcharge in May.
