SCOOTERISTS`S FREE MUSIC FESTIVAL

By Richard Wright - Thursday, May 15, 2008
A FREE August Bank Holiday festival looks set to get the go-ahead.
The festival, planned for Ryde seafront’s Western Gardens, is to entertain the thousands of scooterists, who come to the town over the bank holiday.

But organisers said the event would provide entertainment for other visitors and residents too.
Originally, they planned the event for the town’s Eastern Gardens but that plan drew objections, including those from the Ryde Town Council’s predecessor organisation, Ryde Town Management Committee.
The town council decided on Monday organisers had met early concerns for the festival planned to provide entertainment between noon and 10pm.
Lazy Afternoon is being organised by a consortium, including Stuart Benton, of the Liquid Lounge Bar, Ryde.
Mr Benton told the meeting the festival was being organised to complement other bank holiday entertainment in the town on an area that was the traditional gathering place of scooterists during their rallies.
If the IW Council grants an alcohol and entertainment licence, it will supersede the order preventing drinking in public in that area.
