EXPECTANT mum Sabrina Hayden had a bit of a shock when she took a bath to ease her early labour pains — and baby Ruby decided to make her appearance.
Before the midwife had chance to arrive, Sabrina and partner Jason Kennyford, of St Edmund’s Walk, Wootton, found themselves in the midst of quite a drama when they had to deliver their daughter themselves.
All went swimmingly, though, and Sabrina reckons Jason, a technician at Vestas Blades, would make quite a good midwife should he fancy a change of career.
Ruby is the third child for Sabrina, 28, who already has Alisha, six, and Harvey, three.
But she had no reason to believe the labour would be so quick, lasting less than an hour.
Ruby was born at 8.15pm on Sunday, March 16, weighing 7lb 8oz.
Sabrina said: “I had a bath to relax and was not planning anything like a water birth, when Ruby suddenly arrived and was born into Jason’s arms.
“The midwife arrived five minutes later and she helped Jason cut the cord.
“It was all quite relaxed considering the circumstances, but it was a surprise as I was not completely sure I was in labour.
“But all worked out well in the end.”
