TITLE WINNER LAKE AND VENTNOR BOWL OUT OPPOSITION
Friday, April 4, 2008
Sport/Cricket
LAKE Middle School won the IW Schools’ under-13s boy’s indoor cricket sixes while Ventnor took the girls’ title.
Lake defeated the holders Solent in the semi-final and Archbishop King in the final with Lake’s accurate bowling the key difference between the teams.
Solent batted first against Lake and totalled 76-4, with Leo Nutter, 25no, Barney Tyler, 15, and Keiron Clark, 13. Julian Jayerajah’s 15 and Seb Rayner’s 14no saw Lake to 79-2 for a four-wicket victory.
Against ABK, Bishop Lovett scored 74-3 with Harry Bradley making 20no. Archbishop King cruised to 77-2, with Guy Entwhistle contributing 22no.
In the final, Lake’s bowling was tighter and ABK reached only 61-3 off ten overs.
Gary Scott-Roberts, 14no, and Seb Rayner, 28no, made short work of this and Lake raced to 63-0 for a six-wicket victory. The Lake team of Gary Scott-Roberts, Seb Rayner, Josh Rylutt, Julian Jayerajah, Callum Woolley and Oliver Moseley received the trophies from community coach Jon Goldsmith.
The under-13 girls’ lady Taverners finals at Ventnor were a three-way affair between Ventnor MS, Bishop Lovett and Solent.
BL’s 65-2 gave them a comfortable victory over Solent’s 45-2. In a tighter game Ventnor beat Bishop Lovett.
Ventnor’s faster scoring took them to 87-7, which just eclipsed Bishop Lovett’s 81-2.
In the final, decisive match, Ventnor totalled an impressive 92-1 to easily outscore Solent’s 48-6. Ventnor’s winning team was Alice Hilton, Saskia and Tanisha Janzen, Lucy Bennett, Ellie Clutterbuck and Paris Curzon.
