COWES GAIN ONLY ISLAND VICTORY

By John Hamon - Saturday, March 1, 2008
Newport 0, Bridgwater Town 4
For 42 minutes of this Southern League, South and West Division game today (Saturday), Newport looked good enough to clinch more points but a lapse of concentration left them 2-0 down at the interval.
There was not a lot of action around the goalmouths until Bridgwater skipper Ben Kirk forced Newport keeper Sam Webb to save at the expense of a corner. From the resulting flag kick, Chris YOUNG scored at the near post.
Three minutes later, it got worse as Webb made a fine save only for Mike MACKAY to score from the rebound.
YOUNG added a third in the 72nd minute and, nine minutes from time, substitute Kevin CHORLEY wrapped up the points for the West County side.

Christchurch 2, Cowes 5
The Yachtsmen totally dominated this Wessex League, Premier Division clash today and thoroughly deserved the points with goals from Adam BARSDELL, 2, Matty EVANS, 2, and Joe RAYNER.

Bournemouth 2, Brading 1
Promotion-chasing Bournemouth were fortunate to collect the three Wessex League points today after Brading pushed them all the way.
The home side went ahead but, just before the interval, the Vicarage Lane outfit were level when Kieran O'CALLAGHAN, in his last appearance for Brading before going to Canada to work, scored after good work by Ross Gregory. Bournemouth regained the lead but Danny Hatcher almost snatched a point but his effort skimmed the crossbar.

East Cowes Vics 1, Warminster 2
After a goalless first half in the Wessex League, Division 1 clash at Whippingham today, Nathan BETT put the Islanders ahead but mid-table Warminster hit back with two goals to rob Vics of a share of the points.
