SECOND-HALF DISASTER FOR PORT
By County Press Sports Desk -
Wednesday, March 12, 2008
Didcot Town 5, Newport 0
NEWPORT travelled to Southern League, South and West Division leaders Didcot Town on Saturday and were overrun in the second half.
Playing against blustery winds, Newport fell behind after five minutes when Jack KING netted from a rebound, but the turning point of the game came minutes from the break when Port defender Nathan Bailey was sent off for a second bookable offence.
Didcot started brightly in the second half and, following a double substitution, Matt BICKNELL made it 2-0 for Didcot before Paul POWELL headed in off the post.
Two minutes later POWELL scored again to put the match beyond reach and on 87 minutes, he scored his hat-trick with a low shot.
The defeat leaves Newport 13 points from safety with eight matches remaining.
Newport:
Webb, Bailey, Stay, C. Lewis, Mann, D. Lewis, Bartlett, Morse, Lilley, Saunders, Zammitt.
Subs:
Squibb, Thomas, Bell, Tigwell.
