WHAT are the odds against a hole-in-one?
Probably thousands to one — and the odds of three Island players scoring a hole-in-one within the space of a few days are even greater.
However, that is exactly what has happened as a member of Ryde Golf Club’s ladies’ section, a member of Newport Golf Club, and a member of Shanklin and Sandown Golf Club all achieved the feat.
At Ryde Golf Club Ladies’ Victorian Foursomes, Rosemary Walshe scored hers on the ninth-hole par three.
Steve Chiverton hit his hole-in-one at the tricky 180-yard 11th in the midweek open stableford qualifier at Shanklin and Sandown. It was his first hole-in-one in 12 years of playing.
Meanwhile, at Newport Golf Club’s Secretary’s Cup, Andy Wheeler’s tee shot from the sixth hole — a 177-yard par three — found the hole to win him and his team-mates the title.
