IW DOMINANT BUT DEFEATED

Weymouth 2, IW 1
THE Island slipped to a narrow defeat at highfliers Weymouth but how they ended up losing is something that did not make sense.

For long periods, the Island dominated and should have been ahead by the time Weymouth took the lead with their first real attack.
The Island continued to press and their pressure would eventually tell when Horwell smashed home from the top of the area. The shot gave the home keeper, who had much to say to the Island forwards throughout the game, no chance to save it.
The second half much like the first, it was somewhat harsh on the Island that Weymouth scored what would ultimately prove to be the winner midway through the second period.
The Island were to be continually frustrated by decisions called by the umpires. This included a shot being cleared off the line by the leg of a Weymouth defender and a foul called against the Island, and Tom Young being cautioned after his stick was hit by a home player.
The Island take on Alton in the Hampshire Cup quarter final on Sunday at Smallbrook Stadium.

PROMOTION PUSH GOING WELL
IW IIs 9, Gosport 0
THE pressure is now on the IW II’s to maintain their promotion push.
A slow start was broken when a foul at the top of the D led to Kirk Bishop firing the ball into the bottom corner from a free hit. Five minutes later the lead doubled through a similarly emphatic short corner routine by Pete McKnight.
Craig Bruce added a third and then shortly before half-time a counter attack move straight off the training ground saw Felix Stubbings and Alan Ball link up to score the goal of the game.
In the second half, Scott Edgington added a fifth before Bruce then netted his second. Captain Ball had a penalty chance saved but later he fed Bishop for his first of the season.
Bruce soon added a third to seal a deserved hat-trick and then grabbed a fourth from a short corner taken late in the game.
This weekend the Island travel to bottom-placed Fordingbridge.
