Island Games/Athletics
THE Island collected their second medal tonight (Monday) and are guaranteed at least another tomorrow.
Jaryd Robinson, in his first Island Games, sprinted to bronze glory in the 400m hurdles.
The 16-year-old finished in a time of 56.08 seconds, comfortably in front of the fourth-placed runner.
Kim Murray battled hard in the ladies' 100m while yesterday's gold medal hero, Andy Frost, could manage only sixth in the shot putt final.

TABLE TENNIS
THE Island table tennis squad is guaranteed at least a bronze after beating Shetland Islands 5-2 today to make sure of their crack at a gong.
Earlier in the day they beat Isle of Man 6-1 and Orkney 5-2 to set-up their deciding match against Orkney.
"To be assured of a medal is a great feeling," said player-manager Roger Hookey. "I said before the tournament we would do well to finish between fifth and eighth.
"But we are now only one match away from a possible final appearance and that would be incredible."

TENNIS
THE tennis squad enjoyed some success today with three through to the singles, second round, with another one to play tomorrow.
The only casualty so far is Jack Giles, who met a very strong player from Gotland.
Quentin Sloper had a really tough match before securing a second-round spot.
Having won the first set, he lost the second but progressed winning on a tie-break, 12-10.
Sisters Jenny and Netta Pakenham-Walsh are also through, while Hannah Price plays her first-round match tomorrow (Tuesday).

ARCHERY
THE archery kicked off today (Monday) and the Island have three in with a shout of medals after the first day.
In the ladies' compound, Jennie Ham is lying in the bronze medal position with 621 points while team-mate Andrea Beddard is fourth with 594.
Although lying fifth after the opening day, Alex Smith is only ten points behind the leader. Fred Blackwell is 20th with 513.

SHOOTING
AN ISLAND clay pigeon shooter spent ten hours, a day before competition started, helping the sporting range.
Keith Trigg was asked by the Greek authorities to aid them and the Ventnor shooter jumped in to lend a hand.
"Unfortunately, while they appreciated my assistance, they failed to feed or water me," said Trigg. "But, at least it was up and ready for the competitors to have a decent shoot."
It was amazing that the clay pigeon took place at all because 20 days before the competition, there was no range at all.
Until four months ago, the clay pigeon, rifle and pistol disciplines were in the same venue but suddenly the Rhodes government told them they could not be under the same roof.
"By the time the land had been purchased and planning permission granted, we had just 20 days to get it ready," said Angelo Kalikas, the chief range officer and only member of the jury.
"Although the venue was not finished in time for the shooters to practise on Friday, the range was up and running in time for the competition."

LADIES' FOOTBALL
Prince Edward Island Ladies 4, IW Ladies 0

NEEDING to win their second and final group match, the Island could not quite match the performance of Jersey, as they missed out on a chance to play for a medal.
Prince Edward, in their first football competition in the games, had already hammered Jersey 4-0 and must be one of the favourites to take the gold.

SWIMMING
ON THE first day of competition in the open-air swimming pool, the Island reached four finals but, unfortunately, could not make the podium.
Rosie Gard swam extremely well but finished just outside the medals in fourth position in the 400m freestyle in 5min 20.36sec.
In the 100m breaststroke, Mikael Popov was seventh in 1.09.52, while the women's 4 by 50m freestyle relay team of Louisa Critchley, Maria Morris and Rosie Gard finished a creditable fifth in 1.56.62 and the men's 4 by 50m medley team of Michael Alchin, Popov, Sam Tinson-Wood and Matt Gard were seventh in 1.56.75.
