WILL ROARS TO HAT-TRICK OF VICTORIES

IW rally driver Will Nicholls and Nick Broom scored an impressive victory at the Montberg International Rallysprint last weekend by not only winning the all-comers event but also setting a new record.
The event, based in the Flanders region of Belgium, saw its 35th running over the tight, twisty lanes in and around Dranouter at the base of Kemmel Hill. Nicholls, a Shanklin-based businessman, took his Red Funnel-supported Subaru Impreza to victory by just 0.7 seconds ahead of Welshman Jon Dalton in a Darrian T90.
Similar wins in 2004 and 2005 were interupted by an uncharacteristic accident in 2006, so winning this year is a return to form for the British Rallymasters’ Champion.
“We set a blistering pace all day and we were chased hard by Dalton,” said Nicholls. “He really gave us a good battle but I threw everything I could at the last run and just pipped him.”
The IW team now turn their attention to the next round of the BTRDA Rally Championship, the Red Dragon Rally being held in Wales on May 19.
