A YOUNG Islander has made his debut — and already scored his first try — for the Scottish Exiles under-16 team.
Sixteen-year-old Cowes High School student Gavin Bodrell was selected for the team after being spotted by a talent scout while playing for Vectis in a game against Portsmouth.
Gavin is eligible for the Exiles thanks to Scottish parentage and last weekend ran out as a winger for the side in a triangular tournament in Leeds, against Scottish Borders and Edinburgh.
He scored a try in the side’s 26-12 win over Edinburgh, and in his second match the Exiles drew 3-3 with Scottish Borders.
Watching his debut from the sidelines were parents David and Nicola Bodrell, and sister Lucy.
David said: “Because he was a new member of the team I was expecting him to be a sub but he played all of both matches, so we were all really pleased and proud.”
