FIGURE SKATINGFIGURE skaters from the Island travelled to Kent and came home with a clutch of medals and trophies, to cap a fantastic season for the Isle of Wight Ice Dance and Figure Skating Club.
The team had tough opposition and were competing in larger groups but still maintained their fantastic form.
Competing in her first open competition, Charlotte Mennie had an excellent debut, winning the Synchro Trophy in the beginner ladies’, age 12 and over class, with Isabella Parkes, also making her open competition debut, gaining third place.
Nikita Heathfield had an excellent skate to take silver in the Pauline Wood Trophy for Level 2 ladies, any age.
Maggie Read was narrowly beaten into silver in the Sharon Friend Trophy for Level 4 ladies, any age.
Skating for the first time at his new level, Archie Bicknell won silver in the Colin Butcher Memorial Trophy for Level 5 men.
Meanwhile, the Island continued to impress in the artistic classes, winning five of the six medals available.
Jemma Southwell won the Joanne Conway Artistic Cup for Level 3 and under skaters, Isabella Parkes won silver, with one judge giving her the highest mark of the day, and Nikitia Heathfield won the bronze.
The Rosina Memorial Trophy was won by Yelena Brown with her Charlie and the Chocolate Factory routine, with Maggie Read gaining silver with her interpretation of Ghostbusters.
Coach Terri Smith, said: “It was great to see the last competition of the free skating season finish with so many medals and trophies coming back to the Island. All my skaters have been working hard this year and many will now work on their test levels and new programmes for next year’s competitive season.”
There is no break for the skaters, however, as the synchro season is at its peak with British and International competitions coming up in the new year.
All skaters can be seen in the Christmas Ice show at Ryde Arena, on December 13 and 14.
