Trampolinists hold their own

Friday, July 18, 2008
Sport/TrampoliningTRAMPOLINING trio Sam Snudden, Rosie Wersby and Jess Hinton did themselves proud after an intense competition at the NIA in Birmingham.
All three finished in the top eight of the Grade 2 Over-19 competition.
In the men’s section, Snudden, on very little recent training following exams, performed competently to qualify for the individual final coming eighth from a strong group of 19 competitors. In the finals he was unable to improve on his placing but still finished eighth.
In the ladies’ section, both Jess Hinton and Rosie Wersby had previous experience to draw upon, although Jess had not previously made the individual final.
Their group of 29 qualifiers was particularly strong this year and the preliminary competion for final places very intense.
Starting in the early draw, Jess competed a very strong compulsory and voluntary round to hold second place, while Rosie competed her strongest compulsory of the year but — strangely for her — dropped form significantly in her voluntary.
However, both held top eight placings in the finals, Jess coming joint fourth and Rosie finishing seventh.
Following the summer holiday period, the next competitive activity for Island trampolinists will be in early October when the next round of Regional Grade competitions will attract around 250 competitors to the West Wight Sports Centre.
