From Mr M. White, Newport:

Last week there was an accident on the southbound stretch of the duel carriageway (Medina Way) adjacent to the slip road by Curry’s. This caused the carriageway to be closed and traffic had to use Hunnyhill and High Street to approach Coppins Bridge roundabout.

Of course, it was chaos.

Now, in its wisdom, the Isle of Wight Council is considering an option to pedestrianise the lower part of the High Street.

May I ask, in the event of another accident on the southbound stretch of the duel carriageway (which there will be), and the road is closed; how on earth will Newport-bound traffic proceed to Coppins Bridge?

HGVs have no chance at all.

One more serious accident waiting to happen is in Briddlesford Road, with traffic wishing to enter the civic amenity site.

Tailbacks are occurring, thus blocking through traffic to the ferries etc.

Yes, there are signs saying No Stopping on the Highway but these are on the entrance slip-road.

The signs should be placed before the sliproad and I think a better solution would be a yellow box junction to be put in place before a head-on collision occurs.
