From Sarah McCarthy-Fry, Shanklin:

The summer opening hours (which turned out to be no different from the winter opening hours) at Lynnbottom Tip are a joke. Except it isn’t funny.

The traffic queues are horrendous particularly at the weekends — people are ignoring the signs not to queue up on the highway — but what are they supposed to do?

If someone had driven from the other side of the Island they are hardly likely to drive all the way home again.

Surely somebody at the Isle of Wight Council realised in the summer the footfall would increase?

Surely somebody at the Isle of Wight Council realised that 10am to 6pm excludes anyone who works a normal day from going to the tip during the week putting more pressure on the weekends?

Why do we need a greeter at the entrance to tell us which bin to put our rubbish in but there is no-one directing cars to empty spaces which aren’t visible till you get further round the route leading to longer waiting times?

While in the short term reducing the summer opening hours may have seemed a painless way to save money, in the long term it can only lead to increased fly tipping and the risk of a major road traffic accident. This needs a rethink now.
