From W. H. Bromwich, Cowes:

In the wake of more than 12 per cent of patient deaths at St Mary’s being associated with a ‘serious incident’, I find interim medical director Steve Parker’s comments that ‘the level of serious incidents reported was comparable with other trusts’, and that deaths were not necessarily unavoidable, somewhat complacent and insensitive.

Yes, Mr Parker, we will all pass over at some point; the issue is many would rather not die prematurely as a result of serious failings in our one and only Island hospital.

Twenty deaths connected with a ‘serious incident’ between September and December, is more than one a week. A serious problem which requires urgently addressing.
