From Arthur Reeder, Newport:

I don’t know if this is particularly rare but we have an oak tree growing out of one of our apple trees.

The tree looked dead when we moved in here so we cut it down to a stump.

Since then it has thrived and has even produced fruit.

A few years back, we noticed another branch growing out from the truncated remains and when leaves sprouted, they were oak.

I presume a red squirrel or a jay had stashed an acorn in there that has germinated.

Anyhow, I thought this may be of interest to readers.
