MUSIC students from Platform One will embark on a six-date tour to Holland, with help from Wightlink Ferries.

Students in the final year of their commercial music degree will take to the road to gain experience of a professional European tour, performing in music venues around Amsterdam including the famous King's Day Events.

Peter Pontin, director of Platform One, said: "Without the ongoing support of Wightlink, we would not be able to deliver the opportunities we do.

"They support our Friday Music Industry seminars and mainland-based gigs — they are really committed in supporting young Island based musicians."

The BA (Hons) commercial music is the first full time degree on the Island and is going from strength to strength, with some students relocating to the Island to take it.

Alex James, a student who relocated for the course, said: "I love performing music and the tour is an incredible end of the academic year.

"I feel confident and ready to entertain new audiences."

Student Charlotte McDermott said: "It is amazing that our commercial music course culminates in a proper tour.

"I have never been to Holland and to go there and perform as a musician is serious — what an amazing opportunity."

The students will be playing a warm up gig at The Tap, Sandown on Thursday, April 19 at 7.30pm with free entry.
