From Alexander Hopkinson-Woolley, Bembridge:
Of course, Mr McKie (CP letters, 18-08-17) is right: Education, like the NHS, is just a service.
However, there is a small difference: Education, which starts in the home, builds the socio-economic machine, which the health service maintains in running order; Education is, therefore, even more important than the NHS.
How does he propose to privatise the NHS?
Incidentally, the league tables show how well schools train pupils to pass examinations but not how well they educate them.
