From Elizabeth Hopper, Newtown:

I WRITE as someone born and brought up and living in Newtown, a village protected by SSSI and AONB.

It is therefore with total disgust I witness the continued spoiling of this village by the actions of the National Trust.

It is clear the trust is only concerned with the income it can raise rather than the protection of this unique environment.

The latest claim by Tony Tutton (CP, 13-04-18) that the trust does not actively promote Newtown was proved to be completely untrue this weekend by an activity attracting hundreds of people. causing disturbance to both wildlife and the village.

The National Trust, like many charitable organisations, has chosen to put finances before preservation.

It is no longer a pleasure to live here, thanks to the National Trust.
