From Iain McKie, Totland Bay:

As we approach the first anniversary of having Bob Seely as our MP, it is interesting to decide what sort of Conservative he is.

Is he a pro-market pro-free choice Thatcherite or Rees-Moggite, or is he a patriarchal Heathite or Cameroon?

While he has shown himself adept at avoiding questions and keeping his face in the papers (as one would expect from an ex-spin doctor), he has also shown himself very keen on governmental intervention in the free market, advocating intervention in the ferries’ businesses, property market, and train services.

He even raised concerns over the sale of the County Press and GKN.

Very recently he then supported the forced reduction in limits on fixed-odds gaming machines from £100 to £2, despite this being an affront to personal choice, a decision that will inevitably cost jobs.

People may well agree with him on many, if not all, of the positions that he has adopted, but the question remains what type of Tory is he?

In my opinion, Seely has demonstrated himself to be further left of even Heath and would find himself better suited to the Labour Party, although Blairites actually showed greater respect for the market than our MP.
