From Tim Bristow, Ryde:

Further to my letter (CP, 04-05-18) re: refusing to take more RNLI donations in my shop until they re-instate the two sacked Whitby lifeboatmen because they had saucy mugs in their station kitchen cupboard.

A RNLI official has now come to my shop in Bembridge and taken away the donation box, so I couldn’t collect donations if I wanted to.

Many people in Bembridge have been into the shop following my letter and said how ridiculous the RNLI are being.

I hope the RNLI take all this on board and get back to what they’re supposed to be doing (saving lives at sea). As far as donations are concerned, according to official RNLI sources, they are sitting on a cash pile of £200 million, so they don’t exactly need our donations.
