EDUCATION providers and union leaders have got together to look at ways of improving training at work.

A conference to teach businesses about new legislation to create work-based Learning Representatives (LRs) was due to be held yesterday.

London South Learning and Skills Council (LSC) and Southern and Eastern Regional Trade Union Council say a "skills gap" costs British businesses billions of pounds a year. The LSC is responsible for providing post-16 education and training in Bromley, Croydon and other south London boroughs.

LRs are trade union members who are trained to help work colleagues with negotiating, support and training opportunities.
