ISLAND MP Bob Seely has nominated local pub chef Roger Serjent of the Taverners at Godshill for the 2017-18 Young Parliamentary Pub Chef of the Year Award.

Chef Roger is known across the IW as a true champion of local food.

As the proprietor and chef at The Taverners Pub & Eating House, almost the entire menu and specials boards feature locally sourced produce — something that is incredibly important to Roger and his wife Lisa.

Roger said: "It's very humbling to receive this nomination though it's not just me. I rely on a small, dedicated and hardworking team of chefs, kitchen porters and front house staff to help deliver and maintain a fantastic Island experience."

Roger will join chefs from across the country who will be judged by an expert panel that will shortlist contenders for a cook-off.

They will then display their skills to organisers the British Beer and Pub Association as well as judges from sponsors, Nestlé Professional, the All-Party Parliamentary Beer Group and acclaimed TV guest chef presenter and former Michelin star holder, Paul Merrett.

Mr Seeley said: “The Taverners is an absolutely great pub, one of the best places to eat on the Island, and Roger is a great chef.

"The menu is consistently inventive and creative and they source lots of local food when possible.

"It is at the heart of the foodie revolution on the Island, and is playing a key role in showing the best of Island food to visitors and locals."
