A MAN suffering from suspected fractures was airlifted to hospital after an incident on Tennyson Down this morning (Monday).

The call-out began at around 10.30am when the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service was called to the beauty spot.

They in turn called both the Needles Coastguard and Ventnor Coastguard to help the 69-year-old man, but it was decided he needed to be airlifted from the scene.

The coastguard helicopter from Lee-on-the-Solent was scrambled and the man was flown to St Mary's Hospital.
