COUNCIL tax on the Isle of Wight may have to rise by six per cent this year.
Isle of Wight Council deputy leader, Cllr Stuart Hutchinson, revealed the news at a meeting of the authority's Scrutiny Committee last night (Tuesday) during questioning by Labour's Cllr Geoff Brodie.
The council is facing a £7.5 million blackhole in its finances this year and difficult decisions will have to made, the meeting heard.
The feared rise comes after a two per cent pay increase scheduled for council staff and rising social care costs.
