FIRE crews from across the Isle of Wight were called to a blaze in Carisbrooke tonight (Wednesday).
The Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service sent crews from Newport to a detached house in Bowcombe Road at 11.36pm, following a report of a chimney fire.
However, seven appliances, including a water carrier and aerial platform, were sent once it became apparent the fire had spread to the roof.
Crews from Freshwater, Ryde, Cowes and East Cowes are also involved.
There is a road closure towards the Waverley public house in Carisbrooke.
A further appliance from Yarmouth has joined the operation.
With a covering jet, hose reel and specialist equipment in use, the fire has now been confined to the roof space of the property, a spokesman for the Isle of Wight and Rescue Service said.

A fire investigation team has returned to the scene to re-inspect the property and to try to determine the cause of the fire.
She said no-one had been hurt during the blaze.
The road has re-opened.
*Fire officers are liaising with Isle of Wight Council building control inspectors to assess the damage before they conduct an investigation into the cause of the blaze.
The converted barn's owners, a couple, and their seven dogs, were evacuated before the fire spread to the roof space, according to a fire and rescue service spokesman.
The officer in charge of the operation, Newport-based station manager, James Lucy, praised the efforts of the 40 firefighters involved for their hard work and effort throughout the night to control the fire and restrict the damage to the property.
He said: "We are not sure how the fire started, but once we've received the appropriate advice and expertise of building control inspectors, we will be able to launch our investigation into the cause of it.
"It was an unfortunate set of circumstances. It is always challenging for us when a roof space catches fire, but the crews did all they could to confine the fire to that area and keep it in check to prevent the fire from becoming much worse."
