THE PRESTIGIOUS I Care awards from Carewatch Isle of Wight have been presented to two care workers, Tara Colebrook and Sarah Greenwell.

The awards recognise exceptional achievements from across the Carewatch network for those who go to great lengths to help the company deliver excellent care.

Tara, who has worked for Carewatch for nearly ten years, stood apart from the competition by going beyond the call of duty during her care visits with service user, Norma.

Norma struggles with diabetes and Tara ensured she had enough sugar-free food at home, hung up photograps of Norma with her husband and children, and walked Norma's dog in her spare time when she was hospitalised.

Having been nominated by Norma's granddaughter, Tara said: "It was lovely to be recognised for my efforts.

"When you take on this job, you are taking on the serious responsibility to provide care for people in need."

Sarah has been a Carewatch carer for a year and a half, and was nominated by a Carewatch quality officer.

She gave up two weeks of her annual leave to tailor a 24-hour care package for a woman with complex needs, trained her fellow care workers to use the intricate PEG feeding system and supported them until they became confident to use it on their own.

Sarah said: "I am delighted to win this award and would like to thank my fellow staff members for their support and encouragement.

"The job is hugely rewarding, and sometimes very challenging, so it is great to get this recognition."
