MULTIPLE crews of firefighters have been called out to Bembridge to tackle a house fire caused by a lightning strike.

Four pump appliances, an aerial ladder platform and a command support vehicle have been sent to the scene on Egerton Road.

As of 10pm this evening (Saturday), firefighters were still on scene, with more crews on their way.

Update 23:11: Paramedics have been called out to check over occupants of the house.

A spokesperson for the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service said paramedics were looking after two patients, who were suffering from minor injuries and shock.

The fire has been brought under control.
