A ROYAL Navy bomb squad was called over to the Isle of Wight to safely dispose of confiscated fireworks.

Police had arrested a teenager in Shanklin just before 10pm on Friday after he was stopped and searched.

The 19 year old was later released without charge, but remains under investigation for offences including possessing an offensive weapon in a public place, a police spokesman has said.

"A number of items, including fireworks, were later seized at an address on North Road in Shanklin and had to be disposed of by specialist teams," the police spokesman said.
