THE Isle of Wight's first Hullabaloo event in Sandown has proved a huge success after crowds flocked to the seafront at the weekend.

Spectators lined The Esplanade for a carnival parade and soapbox derby, watched live music on the 'shady lady' pirate ship stage and met with artists, scientists and creators in what was billed as a weekend of arts and discovery.

From a comic book masterclass to kite making, from building scrap bots to a cycle circus, there were all manner of weird and wonderful activities for people to get stuck into, together with locally made food and crafts at the I Love Wight market.

Community artists Ecclestone George, the London Science Museum outreach team and Wight Trash skateboarding supremos were among those encouraging visitors to try something new, learn something unexpected or create something unique.

The event was organised by Shademakers UK Carnival Club, with funding from Arts Council England.
